U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is scheduled to make her announcement on the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh at 3 p.m. eastern today, a source close to the Senate told Newsmax.
Collins is expected to vote in favor of a procedural vote Friday morning, but it is still up in the air if the Maine Republican will confirm Kavanaugh in a vote to take place Saturday.
Collins told Capitol Hill reporters Thursday that the FBI review of allegations made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford "appears to be a very thorough investigation."
From the beginning of Kavanaugh’s nomination, Collins has had reservations about the Appeals Court judge, specifically questioning whether he would overturn Roe v. Wade.
But Senate observers believe Collins has been satisfied Kavanaugh would not vote overturn the historic abortion rights law.
If Collins does vote yes and join Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake to confirm, Kavanaugh’s confirmation would be assured even if Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska votes no.
