Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said Sunday she will vote against Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

"When the Senate considers nominees to the United States Supreme Court, it is particularly important that we act fairly and consistently," Collins said in a prepared statement. "Because this vote is occurring prior to the election, I will vote against the nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett."

Collins was one of two Republican senators, along with Alaska's Lisa Murkowski, to vote against holding a vote prior to the Nov. 3 election. Murkowski said on Saturday, however, she will vote in favor of Barrett's confirmation in an expected full Senate vote on Monday, noting that she would not hold Republicans' procedures against the nominee.

Collins is in a tough reelection fight with liberal groups joining forces to fund her Democratic rival.
