White House communications staffer Steven Cheung left his post last Friday and plans to return to the sports and entertainment industry, Politico reports.

Cheung, one of the last aides from the Trump campaign to still be employed by the president, previously worked for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He was special assistant to the president and director of rapid response, and was integral to the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch and last year's passage of the large tax reform bill.

"Steven has been a part of Trump world for over 700 days," Bryan Lanza, a former Trump campaign aide, told Politico. "He deserves a gold watch."

The news comes one week after junior communications staffer Kelly Sadler exited the White House following an imprudent comment she made about Republican Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., health.

The White House is poised to purge lower-level staffers from its communication staff in the coming weeks in an effort to limit leaks.
