Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon was allowed to walk in and out of the Oval Office as he wanted when he worked for President Donald Trump, according to a new report.
After it was reported that Bannon bashed Trump and people close to him during the presidential campaign and after Trump was inaugurated, Trump said Wednesday his former top aide has "lost his mind." He also claimed Bannon "was rarely in a one-on-one meeting with me."
A CNN report seems to refute that claim, however. The network cited a government official as saying Bannon had walk-in privileges and "met privately with the president all the time."
Wednesday was rocked by the release of an excerpt from an upcoming book by author Michael Wolff, who claims Trump never wanted to be president. The early days of his administration, according to the excerpt published in New York Magazine, were chaotic and plagued by infighting among Trump's staffers.
Bannon left the Trump administration last August.
