House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., indicated possible "further action" against his fellow Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., if she continues making anti-Semitic statements, Mediaite reported Wednesday.

"Congresswoman Omar apologized" for saying the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC was buying the influence of congressmen, Hoyer told reporters, adding "the real test is the actions on the floor," the Washington Examiner reported.

Omar issued the apology after Hoyer and fellow House Democratic leaders released a joint statement that condemned her comments, called the use of anti-Semitic trope and prejudicial accusations about Israel's supporters deeply offensive and urged her to apologize.

Hoyer added: "We need to treat one another with respect and without language that would refer to any kind of interpretation of bigotry, prejudice, or hate. We'll continue to pursue and advocate for that, and very frankly, if that doesn't pan out, there may be further action we would take."

Hoyer, however, did not say what action would be taken against those that do not abide by the directive.

Many Republicans have said they are not satisfied with Omar's apology and she should receive a harsher reprimand, TMN reported.

Some in the GOP have said Omar should be taken off of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which has significant influence over American Middle East policy.
