Rival Won't Challenge Spitzer's NY Ballot Names

Friday, 12 July 2013 02:10 PM EDT

Fellow Democratic hopeful Scott Stringer says he won't challenge Eliot Spitzer's petition signatures in the New York City comptroller's race.

Stringer, who's the Manhattan borough president, also says he'll also encourage his supporters not to do so.

He spoke while greeting voters Friday in downtown Brooklyn.

Stringer says he's eager to get into the election fight.

Spitzer met the deadline Thursday night to file thousands of signatures for his bid to revive his political career. He says more than 27,000 signatures were submitted to the city Board of Elections. He needed 3,750 valid signatures.

Spitzer resigned as governor in 2008 amid a prostitution scandal.
