House Speaker Paul Ryan said Thursday he won't withdraw his endorsement of Donald Trump for president despite differences between the two.

"That's not my plan," Ryan told reporters at the Capitol, according to Politico. "I don't have a plan to do that."

Ryan said he and Trump share "common ground on a lot of things," and "I do believe the last thing we want is a Democrat in the White House, like Hillary Clinton."

He first pledged to support Trump two weeks ago, but since then the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has said several things that Ryan has disagreed with — such as his proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

"I don't know the answer to that, either," Ryan said when asked how many more times he will disagree with Trump but still back his presidential campaign.

Ryan also spoke about gun control, which has been in the news this week on the heels of the terror attack in Orlando that killed 49 people. Trump called for stricter gun laws that would prevent people on terror watch lists from legally purchasing a firearm.

"We don't want to take away citizens' rights without due process," Ryan said. "We want to get this right so we don't undermine terrorist investigations."
