Forty-one groups have joined together to oppose President Donald Trump's pick of Mark Green for Army secretary, The Hill is reporting.

The coalition, citing Green's "inflammatory rhetoric" and "radical views" urged the Senate Armed Service Committee to reject the nomination, according to the website.

"The undersigned organizations, including groups focused on civil rights, LGBTQ equality, women's rights, Muslims and other religious minorities, and the military, urge you to reject the intended nomination of Mark Green to be secretary of the Army," they wrote to Senate Armed Services Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., and ranking member Jack Reed D-R.I.

"Mark Green's inflammatory rhetoric conflicts with the Army's core values and ability to draw on the best talent to accomplish the mission. His radical views would send an incredibly dangerous message down the chain of command — a message that undermines the important progress we've made, threatening morale and readiness."

A copy of the letter was provided to The Hill.

Groups signing the letter included the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League, Planned Parenthood and Muslim Advocates, The Hill said.

McCain has said Green's past comments about gays and lesbians and Muslims are "very concerning," USA Today reported.

Pressed about which comments he found troubling, McCain said, "a broad variety — concerning the Muslim faith, concerning the LGBT community, other issues according to the comments he has made in the past."

Green has maintained liberals are twisting his words.

"I believe that every American has a right to defend their country regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and religion," he said. "It's the radical left that won't allow the latter."
