Democrats are "crying wolf" and are employing "scare tactics" to prevent President Donald Trump from picking a conservative judge for the Supreme Court, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Monday.

During a Senate floor speech, McConnell noted Democrats are up to their same old antics.

"This far left rhetoric comes out every single time," McConnell said. "The apocalypse never comes. Americans see beyond this far left mongering, this fear mongering that they have tried over and over again for 40 years. Senators should do the same.

"We should evaluate this president's nominee fairly based on his or her qualifications. We should treat the process with the respect and dignity that it deserves."

Trump has reportedly chosen who he will nominate for the Supreme Court, a name he will reveal Monday night at 9 p.m. ET.

Nearly two weeks after Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he will retire at the end of July, McConnell referenced past attempts by Democrats to block Republican presidents' nominations by using whatever means necessary.

"After President Reagan nominated then Judge Kennedy to the court in 1987, these far left special interest groups impinged his character," said McConnell, who recalled similar tales regarding former Associate Justices John Paul Stevens and David Souter. "They cooked up apocalyptic warnings about all the terrible things. Terrible things that would happen to Americans if he were confirmed to the court. Of course, the American people didn't buy it."

"These far left groups have been at the same scare tactics for over 40 years," McConnell added. "The consistency is amazing."

Shortly before McConnell spoke, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer aired his thoughts and broadcasted a warning that claimed the next Supreme Court justice could be a deciding vote in a potential overturning of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that legalized abortion.

"No one has been more dedicated to overturning Roe v. Wade than the very man that chose the list of 25 [potential justices]," said Schumer, referencing Trump's judicial adviser Leonard Leo of The Federalist Society.

"That's what we're up against here. That's why America is on tenterhooks, so worried about any choice from this list."
