Senate Democrats appear to be turning against some of their longtime political allies in the tech industry, Axios reported.

The website noted Democrats are outraged over how Russia exploited Google, Twitter and Facebook during the presidential election.

And it comes at a time when there are questions being raised about the tech giants' power and lack of accountability, according to Axios.

While many Democrats have in the past aligned themselves with the tech companies, testimony this week on Capitol Hill showed their frustrations are growing, Axios said.

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va. was critical of the companies for not heeding earlier concerns by lawmakers about Russian meddling, Forbes reported.

"Our claims were frankly blown off by your companies," Warner told executives.

He characterized the companies' response as "nothing like this happened. Nothing to see here."

And Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., added: "What we're talking about is a cataclysmic change, what we're talking about is cyber warfare." She also criticized the companies for offering "vague answers," Forbes reported.

"I went home last night with profound disappointment," Feinstein said. "You have a huge problem. You bear this responsibility, and you have to be the one to do something about it."

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., noted: " It is self-evident that in relation to the power your platforms now have, in the past election, you failed."

Meanwhile, Axios noted in some cases, GOP lawmakers, who generally are not politically connected to tech firms, went much easier on the company officials.
