Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., ripped into President Donald Trump, calling the new tax bill he signed into law on Friday "a very big Christmas gift from Trump to himself," The Hill reported.

"Here's President Trump's check writing, whoops, I meant bill signing ceremony today. How would you like to sign a check over to yourself and your family worth $11M per year? Yes, a very big Christmas gift from Trump to himself," Van Hollen tweeted.

The new tax law would save Trump about $11 million if it was applied to his 2005 income taxes, The New York Times reported Friday, adding the president would save an additional $4.4 million on his eventual estate taxes.

Other Democrats chimed in their opposition to the new tax law.

"What's the #GOPTaxBill worth? To @realDonaldTrump, $11 Million," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tweeted Friday.

"The only number that ever mattered to @realDonaldTrump? $11M. That's how much he'll personally profit from the #GOPTaxScam. Imagine how much more we'd know if he released his tax returns," tweeted Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

"No hearing. No expert testimony. No listening to the American people. That has been the story of the #GOPTaxScam," tweeted House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

"Your tax break: a few hundred dollars, then a tax hike. Trump's tax break: $11 Million. That's bad math for families in Hawaii," tweeted Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii.

Trump has maintained he would not benefit personally from the changes brought about by the new tax law and has this year called the legislation a "Christmas gift" to the middle class and stressed that all tax brackets would see a tax cut in 2018.
