President Donald Trump on Wednesday demurred on questions of stronger gun control in light of Sunday's mass shooting in Las Vegas, telling reporters "we're not going to talk about that today."

"We won't talk about that," Trump said at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada after visiting with shooting victims and trauma center staff.

Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, fired a hail of bullets on 22,000 concert-goers at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday, killing 58 people and injuring 527 others.

He killed himself as police closed in on his suite at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino — and authorities later found 23 guns in the room, including 12 fitted with automation devices.

They also found three cameras — two in the hall outside Paddock's room and one in the door's peephole — that he apparently used to alert him when police arrived.

In addition, authorities also confiscated a total of 47 guns in Paddock's suite and at his homes in Mesquite and Reno.

He also bought 33 firearms, mostly rifles, between October 2016 and Sept. 28, three days before the rampage, authorities said.

Trump described Paddock as "a very sick man."

"He was a very demented person," he said. "He's a sick, demented man."

Democrats saw the rampage as a call for stronger gun control, with many taking to Twitter:
