Sean Spicer: Trump 'Expressed His Confidence' in Ryan

Fox News' "First 100 Days"

President Donald Trump hasn't lost faith in House Speaker Paul Ryan despite the collapse of the Republican healthcare bill, according to White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

"I think the president expressed his confidence in the speaker today. The speaker worked very hard as the president noted," Spicer said on Fox News' "First 100 Days."

After being asked if Trump believed Ryan "over-promised and under-delivered," Spicer replied "not at all.

"The president was very complimentary of Speaker Ryan, his performance, he knows how hard he worked to get this where it is. It was a very, very heavy lift," he said."I think it was something that we hoped to get through, no question about it, but the agenda moves on and we've got a very, very, bold and robust agenda that the president promised the American people and we're going to roll on."

Spicer reiterated the White House view that Democrats are responsible for the failure of both Obamacare and its replacement.

"I think clearly today that message that is sent is you know, Democrats own Obamacare," he said. "We had zero support from Democrats in this process; and Obamacare, you know, the message is still the same — failing system, sky-rocketing premiums, deductibles, and fewer choices — is now squarely in the hands of Democrats that own this."
