White House spokesman Sean Spicer said he expects President Donald Trump to make an announcement this week on whether he has tapes of his Oval Office conversations with former FBI Director James Comey.
"The president has said that he will make an announcement on this," Spicer told reporters at the daily briefing. "I expect it this week.
"And, so, when he's ready to make that announcement, we'll let you know," he added. "How's that?"
He then ended the news conference.
President Trump warned on Twitter last month "James Comey better hope that there are no 'tapes' of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"
In response, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this month: "I've seen the tweet about tapes. Lordy, I hope there are tapes."
The following day, Trump told reporters in the Rose Garden, "I'll tell you something about that maybe sometime in the very near future.
"I'll tell you about it over a short period of time," Trump added. "I'm not hinting at anything."
Hours later after the June 9 presser, the House Intelligence Committee set a Friday deadline for the White House to produce any "recordings or memoranda of Comey's conversations with President Trump that now exist or have in the past."
