Scott Walker to GOP: 'Go Big, Go Bold'

("Squawk Box")

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker doled out some advice to the Republican Party Friday now that it controls the White House in addition to both sides of the Capitol Building: "Go big, go bold."

Walker appeared on CNBC's "Squawk Box" and said the GOP needs to make good on its promises that earned it the majority in the House in the 2014 midterm elections and the White House last fall.

"I hope our friends here in Washington will take a page from our states and do the things we said we were going to do," Walker said. "Go big, go bold, get things done, and people rewarded us, which I think they'll do for the House, the Senate, and eventually the president."

When asked what Republicans need to do in order to avoid "potential pitfalls" during President Donald Trump's first term in office, Walker was blunt.

"It's put up or shut up time," he said.

Walker added that in 2012, Republican Mitt Romney lost the presidential election to Barack Obama partly because of the 2010 Obamacare law. That is, as governor of Massachusetts, Romney instituted a healthcare law that was similar to Obamacare.

"Mitt Romney is a great man, good person, would have been an excellent president, but was not the great contrast because obviously Massachusetts had something very similar to that," Walker said.

Walker was one of the 17 Republicans vying for last year's presidential nomination before he bowed out in September 2015. He said Republicans have come a long way in the last eight years.

"You look across the nation in the eight years that Barack Obama was president of the United States, there are more than 1,000 new Republican lawmakers since then," Walker said.

"Democrats at that point, when he was sworn in, had 28 governors. Today we have 33 Republican governors."
