Gov. Scott Walker: Time for Americans to Give Trump a Chance

Fox News' "Fox & Friends"

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who takes over as chairman of the Republican Governors Association this week, called on Americans to give President-elect Donald Trump a chance to prove himself.

"Right now, let's give the guy a shot," the former 2016 GOP presidential candidate told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program, repeating what he'd said to the new Republican majority in Wisconsin a week after that state's elections.

"It's put up or shut up time," Walker said. "The voters have had their say, and they wanted a change. There are more people employed in our state than ever before. If he acts quickly like we did, he will be successful."

As Walker takes on his new chairmanship, replacing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, there will be 33 GOP governors, more than at any time since the 1920s. He will also lay the groundwork for 38 more races in 2018, and will be chair during two races in 2017.
Trump pulled off a win in Wisconsin, and Walker said that was because of a team effort.

"In the last five weeks, we did a million contacts with voters, compared to four years ago, when we did about 415,000," said Walker, noting the effort paid off with the elections of both Trump and Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson.

However, for a period of time, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, the speaker of the House, decided not to campaign for Trump following a leaked audio tape of him using lewd language about women. But by the end, Ryan was also in Wisconsin, "the whole team was there. We paid off big in the end when Donald Trump and Ron Johnson won."

Wisconsin voters wanted Trump because they wanted someone who would step up for them, said Walker, and that meant a candidate who would eliminate the executive orders such as for "so-called clean power plants," which were devastating for Midwestern states that rely heavily on their industrial core. Obamacare, which is "no longer affordable," was also a concern, said Walker.

"What people want is to be able to make decisions for themselves and their families," said Walker. "We can do that in a way that allows us as patients to have skin in the game. That's really what's going to help control healthcare costs. Not the government dictating it to us."
