MSNBC's Joe Scarborough says Republicans should drop the ax on Rep. Devin Nunes for his "extreme form of day trading" -- kowtowing to the White House instead of working for Congress in his investigation into Russia's interference in American politics.

The "Morning Joe" host, a former Republican congressman from Florida, fired off a series of tweets Wednesday evening recommending the ouster of Nunes, a California Republican:

Earlier Wednesday, Nunes told reporters about incidentally collected information on members of President Donald Trump's transition team, data he said was "widely disseminated" in intelligence reports.

He also went to the White House to brief Trump's inner circle about the findings.

But the California Republican's revelation blindsided Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on his committee, with whom he hadn't yet shared the information.

Nunes' disclosure seemed to lend credence to Trump's much-discredited claim that his Trump Tower skyscraper in New York City had been "wiretapped" by President Barack Obama during last year’s presidential race.

Scarborough retweeted a Wall Street Journal editorial that slammed Trump for continuing to hold onto the debunked wiretapping assertion "like a drunk to an empty gin bottle."

Sen. John McCain has called for a select committee to probe Russia's meddling because "what the American people have found out so far, that no longer does the Congress have credibility to handle this alone."

"I don't say that lightly," the Arizona Republican told Greta Van Susteren on MSNBC.
