New White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is meeting one-on-one with aides in the department to weed out those not working hard enough, The Washington Post reports.

"Anthony's extremely empowered," Bryan Lanza, former adviser to the Trump campaign and transition, told The Post. "The president deserves a top-tier communications shop, and with Anthony they get a top-tier talent to manage the communications shop.

"We're going to see a communications shop that's dedicated to pushing the president's agenda and defending the president, and I can't say that that's always been the case."

Scaramucci said Friday that three aides are in no danger of dismissal: newly promoted press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, director of strategic communications Hope Hicks and director of social media Dan Scavino. All of whom were given the high-ranking position of assistant to the president, and are all close to President Donald Trump personally.

The former Fox News host has said he wants to focus more on defending Trump. According to associates of Scaramucci, he has complained that the White House spends too much time managing chief of staff Reince Priebus' image rather than helping Trump.

"The majority of the communications problems have been caused by the president going off script and blowing up a well-planned message week with a single tweet, and it doesn't matter who the staffers are in the communications office if the principals can't get on the same page with the message and exercise some self-discipline," Ryan Williams, Republican strategist, told The Post.

"Unlike every other staffer, maybe Anthony Scaramucci will be able to persuade the president to stay on message, but I'll believe it when I see it."
