Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., is blasting Democrats for targeting Newsmax, Fox News, and OANN.

His comments came in a Tuesday tweet.

He wrote: “Democrats in Congress are working to ban Fox News, OAN, and Newsmax from all cable and streaming platforms. They want to control:  - Your news  -Your TV  -Your entire life.

“This is what you’d see in the Soviet Union.”

His tweet came as two Democrat House lawmakers demanded answers from cable television providers on the role they play in the "spread of dangerous misinformation."

A letter, signed by Reps. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., and Jerry McNerney, D-Calif., targets only conservative-leaning outlets, including Fox News, Newsmax, and OANN.

The House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology of the Committee on Energy and Commerce is scheduled to hold a hearing Wednesday on disinformation and extremism in media.

Newsmax issued a statement Monday decrying what the company said was an attack on the First Amendment. And Newsmax noted that the Eshoo-McNerney letter makes several false or misleading characterizations of its coverage.
