Rand Paul Calls for Halt to US Arms Sales to Saudi Arabia

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is pushing for a halt to U.S. arms sales to Saudi Arabia while journalist Jamal Khashoggi is missing.

Paul made his remarks in a Wednesday interview on Fox News' "Fox & Friends."

Turkish security officials say Khashoggi, a Saudi dissident journalist, was murdered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on orders from the royal court, according to The New York Times.

Attributing the information to an unnamed Turkish security official, the Times reported Khashoggi was killed within two hours of his arrival at the consulate by a team of Saudi agents who dismembered his body with a bone saw.

"For over a couple of years now, we've been supporting the Saudi . . . bombing in Yemen," Paul said. "Over 10,000 civilians have died.

"But now that the Saudis appear to be involved in the killing of a journalist, I think we shouldn't be selling them weapons."

And he added: "We shouldn't be aiding and abetting what they're doing in Yemen. A signal needs to be sent."
