Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin reacted swiftly to Matt Lauer's surprise firing from the "Today" show and swatted Rosie O'Donnell for her crude reference to President Donald Trump after the commander in chief weighed in on Lauer.

In a series of Facebook posts, she wrote Wednesday following NBC's bombshell announcement that it was canning Lauer following allegations of "inappropriate sexual behavior," the former GOP vice-presidential candidate called the termination, "a huge deal."

"[It's] a bad day for liberals," Palin continued.

She then took a swipe at O'Donnell, who made a crass remark about Trump's reaction to the Lauer firing, in which he said on Twitter:

Responding to Trump, O'Donnell, has been in a longstanding battle with Trump, took his Twitter reaction scrawled over it in big red letters, "CHILD RAPIST."

"Glass houses," O'Donnell wrote underneath along with the hashtag #trumpRAPES.

An astonished Palin said of O'Donnell's smear, "Get ready for some chaos. Rosie has completely lost it … Wow!"

Lauer's dismissal caught viewers of the "Today" show by surprise.

Lauer's co-anchor Savannah Guthrie made the announcement at the top of Wednesday's show.

She read a statement from NBC News chairman Andy Lack, stating the company had received a detailed complaint from a colleague Monday night "about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace" by Lauer.

Lack's statement said the company found that after a serious review of the complaint it represented "a clear violation" of the company's standards, and Lauer was terminated as a result. He added in his statement that it was the first complaint about Lauer in more than 20 years at NBC, but "we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident."

Early this month, Palin discussed sexual harassment in the wake of accusations made against Sen. Al Franken, saying she has not personally experienced it because people know she carries a firearm.

"I think a whole lot of people know I'm probably packing so I don't think there's a whole lot of people who would necessarily mess with me," Palin told MSNBC.

"I don't mean to be lighthearted, this is a serious issue. It really stinks for women in the workplace that for too long, men have thought they can get away with that old-school thinking that it's okay to belittle and harass women."
