President Donald Trump is showing "tremendous compassion" while responding to the crisis events that have taken place this year, House Speaker Paul Ryan said in an interview airing Saturday morning.

"He is flying to these emergencies as soon as he can without jeopardizing responses," Ryan told MSNBC's Hugh Hewitt. "I think the fact that he's going and stopping what he's doing and focusing on these things...it shows that the people who are suffering from these tragedies are on his mind from the center."

Trump has been praised by pundits and lawmakers for his trip to Las Vegas following the mass shootings that occurred there on Sunday, and for how he handled Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in Texas and Florida.

However, his trip to Puerto Rico was panned after he spoke of how the hurricane there had "thrown our budget a little out of whack," and when commented that fewer lives were lost on the island territory than had been lost after a "real catastrophe" with Hurricane Katrina.

He was also panned for throwing out rolls of paper towels into a crowd of people.

"Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is of Puerto Rican descent, on Friday also blasted Trump for adding "insult to injury" by saying in a tweet Puerto Rican leaders need to do more to help themselves, and for blasting San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz after she criticized his response to the storm, reports The Hill.

"I’ve never seen a president attack the elected officials on the front line of a disaster," Miranda told MSNBC's "All in With Chris Hayes" program. "I’ve never seen the president attack the victims of a natural disaster."

"It's jaw-dropping," Miranda added. "This has been an unprecedented disaster and it deserves an unprecedented response, or at least commiserate with the two other hurricanes that have also ravaged the United States of America."
