Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani said Friday that the Russia special counsel investigation could get "cleaned up" with pardons from President Donald Trump.

"When the whole thing is over, things might get cleaned up with some presidential pardons," the former two-term New York City mayor told The New York Daily News.

His comments came hours after a federal judge in Washington revoked Paul Manafort's bail and sent the former Trump campaign chairman to jail after he was charged with witness tampering in the probe.

Manafort, who has been charged in both Washington and Virginia, had been on home confinement in Alexandria, Va., and ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device.

Mueller charged Manafort last week with witness tampering in a new indictment.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge Friday, but U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson revoked his bail, sending him to jail.

Giuliani, 74, a former federal prosecutor in Manhattan, told the Daily News that he had seen no evidence to justify sending Manafort to jail.

"I don't understand the justification for putting him in jail," he said. "You put a guy in jail if he's trying to kill witnesses, not just talking to witnesses."

Giuliani also reiterated his call for the Justice Department to end the Mueller inquiry.

"That kind of investigation should not go forward," he told the Daily News. "It's time for Justice to investigate the investigators."
