Republican Study Committee Chairman Mark Walker became the latest conservative to warn his peers in the GOP not to attach debt ceiling legislation to the relief package for Hurricane Harvey victims, the Washington Examiner reported.

"What happened in Texas is a tragedy and it needs an urgent congressional response," Walker said in a statement, the Examiner reported. "Congress is united behind this effort, but I worry about jeopardizing an agreement with such legislative games."

Walker may have been referring to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Sunday saying he and President Donald Trump would like to see the relief package tied to raising the debt ceiling, something Congress needs to act on by Sept. 29.

Last week, Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, like Walker a North Carolina Republican, also warned against tying the two together.

"The Harvey relief would pass on its own, and to use that as a vehicle to get people to vote for a debt ceiling is not appropriate," Meadows said.

Congressional leadership has pledged to work quickly to pass Trump's request for a $7.85 billion relief package for those areas hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.
