President Barack Obama’s campaign theme of “Forward” is proving to be ripe for attack from American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-linked super PAC.
The group is shelling out $6.6 million for television ads in eight swing stakes going after Obama’s slogan, Politico reports. The states are Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio and Virginia, strategists said.
Meanwhile, the super PAC’s affiliated advocacy group, Crossroads GPS, is diving into the North Dakota Senate race, running ads to help GOP Rep Rick Berge against Democratic nominee, former state Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp.
As for the anti-Obama ad, “Are you better off now?” the narrator asks. “President Obama says he’ll move us forward, but where’s he taken us so far?”
See video below:
The answers probably won’t surprise you. “America’s worst economic recovery ever, 23 million of us without full-time work,” the ad says. “Family incomes down, 40 percent living paycheck to paycheck. And Obamacare’s new tax on middle-class families. All while Obama racked up $5 trillion more in debt,” the ad continues. “Is that really forward – or backward?”
In North Dakota, Crossroads GPS attacks Heitkamp for supporting the healthcare reform law and lauds GOP Rep. Rick Berg as someone who can resist Obama’s policies.
“With our national debt nearly $16 trillion, would you still support Barack Obama’s $1 trillion- healthcare law?” the ad intones. “Heidi Heitkamp does. She actually called it a budget saver and opposes repealing the law. Rick Berg opposes Obamacare and voted to repeal. Berg also opposes the wasteful stimulus.”
Democrats and Republicans alike see the North Dakota seat as crucial to determining who controls the Senate.
