Sen. Ron Wyden, a ranking member on the Finance Committee, is probing Donald Trump's sale of Maison de l'Amitié, a stunning oceanfront property in Palm Beach, to the family trust of Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev.

Trump bought the six-acre spread for $41.35 million at a bankruptcy auction in 2004 and four years later sold it to a company controlled by Rybolovlev's family trust for $95 million.

In a letter to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, Wyden asked for documents relating to the sale so that Congress can "follow the money and conduct a thorough investigation into any potential money laundering or other illicit financial dealings between the president, his associates and Russia."

Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, noted that at the time of deal, "many financial institutions stopped lending to Mr. Trump due to his business practices in the 1980s and 1990s."

Rybolovlev is named on a federal watchlist of wealthy Russian oligarchs with close ties to the Kremlin.

A spokesman for Rybolovlev told the Palm Beach Daily News that no one questioned the 2008 deal until Trump was elected president and a federal investigation began into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

"The transaction was publicly announced and widely covered by the U.S media. There was no suggestion whatsoever of any impropriety about the purchase," spokesman Brian Cattell said.
