A veterans group confirmed Tuesday it is backing former Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., in Florida's gubernatorial race.
Concerned Veterans for America Action (CVAA) said DeSantis' history in the Navy and his history of supporting the military as a member of Congress led to its endorsement.
"During his time in Congress, Ron DeSantis demonstrated that he was a steadfast champion for veterans, and we are confident he will continue to be their champion in Tallahassee," CVAA senior adviser Dan Caldwell said. "Floridians and Florida veterans will be well served with DeSantis as governor, and we urge them to vote for him this November."
The group also produced a flier that it will mail out to Florida voters.
"Ron DeSantis is a champion for those who served," the flyer reads. "Our veterans can trust Ron DeSantis to fight for them."
DeSantis is running against Democrat Andrew Gillum, the current mayor of Tallahassee. The latest RealClear Politics polling average has Gillum ahead by more than 4 points.
