The stakes are high in Florida's gubernatorial race, former Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., argued Thursday, stating Democratic challenger and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum wants tax increases that will cost jobs.
"I think Floridians understand that there is a real significant choice here for the direction of our state," DeSantis told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "I'm going to build off the success we have. Our economy is going well. We need to continue that and expand on it."
But Gillum, he said, "wants that 40 percent tax increase, which will cost jobs, cause businesses to leave Florida," and slow "what could be a historic flow of investment into Florida over the next several years. So the stakes are high."
The race is polling within a few percentage points, and DeSantis argued Thursday the mayor should be impeached for his own activities in office, rather than saying he wants President Donald Trump out of office.
"Andrew wants to impeach Trump," said DeSantis. "How the hell is he going to work with the Trump administration constructively to advance Florida's priorities?"
DeSantis said that unlike Gillum, if he is elected he will focus on the pollution issues that have been plaguing Florida in recent months through making "good appointments" to the water management districts, and by working with the Trump administration to finish several projects, including a reservoir south of Lake Okeechobee, where water is processed.
