Ann Romney appeared at a San Diego council meeting this week to protest the city's current procedure for coastal development construction permits.
"I urge you to make sure that stronger protections are put in place so that in the future, permits are processed efficiently and correctly, and the public is afforded the proper notice and opportunity to be heard," the wife of former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney said at the public meeting on Tuesday, according to
MSNBC.
The Romneys have been renovating their $12 million, 3,000-square-foot beachfront home in La Jolla, but progress has been slowed by delays in processing their permits.
The couple first asked the city for a permit in 2010 to allow them to tear down the 76-year-old home and replace it with a house three times the size, which included plans for a car elevator.
At the time, critics seized on the plans as evidence that Mitt Romney was
out of touch with ordinary Americans.
