In a new TV ad airing in Ohio, Mitt Romney accuses President Barack Obama of “vicious lies” in his attacks against the Republican presidential nominee’s private-equity career at Bain Capital,
Fox News reported.
The ad features Obama’s former opponent and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “So shame on you, Barack Obama!” cries out the voice of Clinton in footage from the bitterly contested Democratic primary campaign of 2008. She was referring to Obama spending “millions of dollars perpetuating falsehoods.”
The ad’s narrator goes on to say, “But that’s Barack Obama,” adding that Obama first attacked Clinton with “vicious lies."
Romney’s TV ad cites a Washington Post column that called an Obama attack ad against Romney “misleading, unfair, and untrue.”
The Obama ads said that six companies that Bain invested in during Romney’s tenure at the firm were “pioneers” in the emerging trend of outsourcing U.S. jobs to foreign countries like India and China. The independent group FactCheck.org said it “found no evidence to support the claim that Romney — while he was still running Bain Capital — shipped American jobs overseas." In turn, the Obama campaign said FactCheck.org was wrong.
“Any time you spend tens of millions of dollars on an ad and it is not responded to, it will have an impact and reinforce your own base, and the Democratic base is obviously solid behind the president,” said Ed Rollins, the Fox News contributor, on Sunday. “I don't think it has moved as much of the independent vote, and that is really what it will come down to.”
