Congress is on track to finish tax reform in the next two weeks, sticking to the GOP goal of getting legislation on the president’s desk by Christmas, Sen. Roger Wicker, R.-Miss., said Sunday.

In an interview with radio host John Catsimatidis on “The Cats Roundtable,” Wicker hailed passage of the Senate version of the bill early Saturday.

“The good news is that we are well on our way to a pretty quick conference with the House of Representatives on wrapping up this tax relief," Wicker said.

“I’m very hopeful we can get it wrapped up in the next 10 days or so,” he added.

There are eight days left in the year on the legislative calendar with both the House and Senate in session, during which the two chambers will conference to work out the differences between their versions of the bill, The Hill noted.

Wicker said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., told him he plans to hold a vote Monday on beginning the conference.

The Mississippi Republican also said he believes tax reform will have a quick effect.

"All in all, I think the economy is going to feel a great shot in the arm almost immediately," he said, adding that along with Trump administration regulation rollbacks, job growth will be assured.

“We’re trying to make it clear that we want to be friendly with job creators,” he said. “Now we're going to be a competitive across the globe again."

He also predicted repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate within the tax reform legislation will assure that Obamacare “unravels,” allowing Congress to replace the healthcare law “with something that works much better.”
