RFK Jr. Might Drop Out, 'Join Forces' With Trump

By    |   Tuesday, 20 August 2024 01:38 PM EDT

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. might suspend his independent presidential campaign and endorse former President Donald Trump, Kennedy's running mate, Nicole Shanahan, said in an interview Tuesday, CNBC reported.

Shanahan, an attorney and entrepreneur, said in an interview with the podcast "Impact Theory" that the campaign is considering whether to "join forces" with the Trump campaign or stay in the race and attempt to gain more than 5% of the popular vote in the general election, which may help to "establish ourselves" as a third party.

"There's two options that we're looking at and one is staying in, forming that new party, but we run the risk of a [Vice President] Kamala Harris and [Minnesota Gov. Tim] Walz presidency because we draw votes from Trump, or we draw somehow more votes from Trump," Shanahan said.

"Or we walk away right now and join forces with … Donald Trump and we walk away from that and explain to our base why we're making this decision," she added, noting that it's "not an easy decision."

Contacted by CNBC for comment, Kennedy's campaign referred to a post on X from Kennedy on Tuesday.

"As always, I am willing to talk with leaders of any political party to further the goals I have served for 40 years in my career and in this campaign," Kennedy wrote. "These are, reversing the chronic disease epidemic, ending the war machine, cleaning corporate influence out of government and toxic pollution out of the environment, protecting freedom of speech, and ending politicization of enforcement agencies."

Newsmax is seeking comment from the Trump campaign.
