Portman: Flake, Corker 'Are for Tax Reform' Despite Trump Attacks

Republican Sen. Rob Portman on Wednesday said it's a "crazy" notion that his peers would vote against tax reform over their public spats with President Donald Trump.

A guest on CNBC's "Squawk Box," Portman said Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker support tax reform because it's the right thing to do for their constituents.

"Both of them are for tax reform," Portman, R-Ohio, said on CNBC. "The notion I've heard this morning that they're somehow going to vote the other way because of their views about the president is crazy. They're going to do what's best for the people they represent."

Flake and Corker took center stage Tuesday in their separate attacks on Trump, including Flake's announcement that he would not seek re-election in 2018 because of Trump.

Their feuds came on the same day as the president's luncheon with Republican senators on Capitol Hill, designed as a ramp-up to tax reform.

"There was a lot of enthusiasm in the room, including from Bob Corker and Jeff Flake about tax reform," Portman said.
