Mitt Romney has joined forces with the Republican National Committee and four state GOP operations to raise the limit individual donors can give. The move allows a single person to donate $75,800 instead of the $5,000 otherwise allowed,
The Washington Post reports, noting the Obama campaign made a similar move last year.
Since the end of primary challenges, Romney has been on a fundraising tear. He took in $10 million in New York and another $10 million in Florida recently.
The $40 million raised by Romney and the RNC in April brings them nearly even with the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee totals for April.
Romney has been heavily courting the finance industry and it has paid off with millions in donations, according to an analysis by the Post. Some of that money will be funneled to the National Republican Congressional Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee, a Romney aide said.
The Obama campaign is not directing funds to House and Senate races, according to the Post.
