The Republican National Committee (RNC) has proposed sponsoring monthly primary debates for presidential candidates. But representatives for three possible candidates object,
Politico reports.

Their concern is that the RNC would make decisions over debate format and moderators that should come from the campaigns themselves. Candidates also worry that the RNC would create an excess of debates, given that others already are on the calendar.
“This is a matter that should be left to the campaigns,” an aide to one likely candidate told Politico. “The RNC should be focused on Democrats and Obama. The ownership over this belongs to the campaigns. We can work with one another to come to an agreement.”
A staffer for another candidate called the RNC proposal “well-intentioned” but “misguided.”
