Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel Friday said she's "very optimistic" about landmark tax reform making it to President Donald Trump's desk, as Republicans want the bill to succeed.

"Republicans want to get to yes," McDaniel told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "They know the American people have seen their wages stagnate under the failing Obama economy and are looking for more money in their paychecks. We need to fight for the average American family. Republicans ultimately will get to yes. Of course, Democrats are nowhere to be seen again."

She also commented on news reports indicating House Speaker Paul Ryan is considering retiring, which he has denied.

"I don't know," McDaniel said. "It's such a personal decision. What I will say is Speaker Ryan is a fantastic speaker. He took over at a time when there was a lot of turmoil in the House. He was the consensus choice as somebody who could bring the caucus together. He has done a great job."

She added that she hopes he does not retire, but she understands that will be a personal decision between himself and his family.

"The president expressed the same sentiment," she said. "He doesn't want Paul Ryan going anywhere."

McDaniel met with Trump at the White House on Thursday, and said they talked about the importance of getting the tax bill passed and what effect it will have on Americans.

"The president is always focusing on the people he fought for when he ran," McDaniel said. "That's why we launched the Paycheck President website to get people to see how much money they'll take home and to call their Democrat senators."

She said she and the president also spoke about the Republican Party, and noted he "is keen" on keeping majorities alive in 2018.

"We know the Democrats are all about obstruction, resistance, even if it's in the best interests of the American people," said McDaniel.
