Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., indicated Thursday he supports providing a pathway for Dreamers to stay in the United States on a permanent basis.
The former Florida governor was on CNBC's "Squawk Box" and made the remark.
"Why don't we make sure they have a path to stay here? We have a lot of people here from other countries under a temporary protective program," he said. "Why don't we have a permanent solution for that?"
An estimated 800,000 people who came to the U.S. illegally as children with their parents are currently allowed to stay in the country under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The program was phased out by the Trump administration last year but is still in effect as the court system sorts out the matter.
Democrats and Republicans have called for Congress to institute a permanent fix to the DACA issue to prevent Dreamers from being deported.
