Newly announced GOP presidential candidate
Rick Santorum tucked away a sly but pointed dig at Democratic White House contender Hillary Clinton on his new campaign website.
For hapless visitors to ricksantorum.com who wind up on a broken link, that "404" page reads: "We’re sorry, but we couldn’t find that page. But we do have this search box, you know, 'for convenience,'"
the Huffington Post reports.
The reference is to Clinton's response to criticism about her use of a private meal server to conduct official business while she was secretary of state. Clinton shrugged off her private email use as
"a matter of convenience."
The clever jibe was quickly picked up and applauded on Twitter.
Clinton's email troubles have become an early theme for Santorum. His Super PAC, Patriot Voices,
released an ad last month slamming Clinton for placing "America in even greater peril in an already-dangerous world."
"If Hillary Clinton has created this type of disaster as our secretary of state, how could we ever feel safe with her as our commander-in-chief?" the ad narrator asks.
But Santorum isn't the only White House hopeful to clown-up their 404 "error" page.
Clinton has one that plays on an old picture of herself, former President Bill Clinton, and daughter Chelsea
posing with Donald Duck. "Oops, that link wasn’t what it was quacked up to be."
For his 404 page, Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio declares
"Fumble!" and invites them to watch a video of him coaching his son's football team.
And Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders lectures website visitors who click on a broken link
with a short video that urges them to "scoot down to the bottom of the page" to see the website menu and "find your way home where you should be."
