A former campaign aide for President Donald Trump — indicted earlier this year in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe — is reportedly getting out of house arrest to celebrate the New Year.

Rick Gates, a former lobbying partner and deputy of Trump's ex-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, got the holiday reprieve from U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, even while his lawyers are trying to explain in another court why his appearance in a fundraising video are not in violation of a gag order.

The news was first tweeted out by a BuzzFeed News correspondent.

There were no details in court documents about Gates' New Year's party plans, with his lawyers requesting permission only he be allowed to "accompany his family to events" from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day.

He will stay in Virginia, remain within 60 miles of his home, will still be monitored by a GPS device, the court documents also stated.

Gates pleaded guilty in October to multiple charges — including money laundering and failing to register as an agent of a foreign government — brought as part of the Mueller investigation.
