Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe's creating a "paper trail" of congressional briefings is aimed to expose leaks and the "politicization of intelligence," according to former acting DNI Richard Grenell on Newsmax TV.
"This politicization of intelligence has got to stop," Grenell told Monday's "Stinchfield." "It's not making Americans safer."
Grenell rejected House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff's objections to ceasing in-person briefings, because of past practice of politicians selectively leaking intelligence information that can damage their political opponents.
Rep. Schiff, D-Calif., is going to be getting all the classified information he needs, but the difference is this is now going to be in written form to hold leakers and journalists accountable for their one-sided attacks, Grenell told host Grant Stinchfield.
"One side leaks tidbits in order to spin one side of a political story," Grenell lamented, adding the complete story will be documented on paper now, forcing all sides to be accountable to the full intelligence story.
"There's now a way to push back," Grenell concluded, adding journalists must now be skeptical of verbal claims, asking to see the full document – which would be a criminal offense to leak to the press.
