Richard Trumka, the president of AFL-CIO, the U.S.'s largest labor federation, slammed President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
"Broken promises are bad enough, but President Trump has used his office to actively hurt working people," Trumka said, The Hill reported.
Trumka said that Trump's policies that have hurt workers include the Republican tax overhaul, delaying the Obama-era overtime rule, and rescinding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
The union leader said that he remains willing to work with the president.
"If President Trump wants to change course and join us in the fight to raise wages and standards, and strengthen our democracy and build better lives, then we'll be ready," he said.
"But if he continues down his current path, workers will be looking for a new president in 2020," Trumka added.
One year into Trump's administration, Trumka said that union workers are turning away from the president. "I can tell you more and more working people are coming back across the bridge saying, 'Yeah, he promised stuff, but it's not working.'"
AFL-CIO will focus political funding on House and Senate races in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, New Mexico, Arizona, Florida, and Missouri, Trumka said.
"Democrats will help themselves if they have an economic agenda that rings true with working people and they will hurt themselves if they don't."
Trumka posted a video on Twitter addressing Trump's first year. "Is he going to make America better for my kids and grandkids? If the answer is no, then we need to go in a different direction," he said in the video.
