Condoleezza Rice Steals Show at Romney Fundraiser

By    |   Monday, 25 June 2012 07:28 PM EDT

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice turned heads and outshined several potential vice presidential choices at a high-powered fundraiser for Mitt Romney in Utah last weekend.

According to news reports, Rice spoke at a luncheon on Saturday during the “First National Romney Victory Leadership Retreat” in Park City. She spoke passionately about the need for the U.S. to return to its role as a world leader, a constant theme of the Romney campaign.

Those on hand were South Dakota Sen. John Thune, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan but it was clear that Rice had generated the most interest.

Charles Cobb, who served as ambassador to Iceland from 1989 to 1992, told ABC News that Rice was “spectacular” and described her as a “very bright, sophisticated, articulate lady.”

Her performance has resumed talk of her as a vice presidential pick for Romney.

Rice, 57, has said that she’s not interested in being vice president, and she is rarely mentioned as a possible running mate.

In Washington on Monday, she is hosting a fundraiser for ShePAC, a super PAC begun in February that supports Republican women candidates.
