Republicans are shaking their heads at a new report that accuses President Donald Trump of sharing highly classified information with the Russians.

The Washington Post broke the story early Monday evening and said Trump wrongly gave top secret information to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during an Oval Office meeting last week.

Axios compiled reactions from a handful of several Republican lawmakers who have expressed outrage at the story, if it is proven to be true.

"The White House has got to do something soon to bring itself under control and in order; it's got to happen," Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said. "Obviously, they're in a downward spiral right now, and they've got to figure out a way to come to grips with all that's happening. To compromise a source is something that you just don't do."

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said, "it's disturbing. We certainly don't want any president to leak classified information, but the president does have the right to do that."

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said of the report, "If it's accurate, it'd be troubling."

A statement from the office of House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., read, "We have no way to know what was said, but protecting our nation's secrets is paramount. The Speaker hopes for a full explanation of the facts from the administration."

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., had this to say about the story, according to BuzzFeed News: if the story is true, "it's another brick in the wall of a really, really troubling connection between Trump and the Russian government."
