Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus Thursday slammed Hillary Clinton's speech on battling the Islamic State, saying that it "largely doubled down on the existing Obama strategy."

"Hillary Clinton is the architect of the failed Obama foreign policy that has presided over a steep increase in radical Islamic terrorism and the rise of ISIS," Priebus said, referring to President Barack Obama. "Rather than putting forward a new plan to defeat ISIS, Hillary Clinton offered soaring platitudes and largely doubled down on the existing Obama strategy."

In a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, the former secretary of state laid out her most expansive view to date on how to battle the terrorists behind the Paris attacks on Friday that left 129 people dead.

Clinton said that the time had come for a "new phase" in the fight against Islamic State that would include a more effective U.S.-led air campaign that would "have to be combined with ground forces actually taking back more territory."

"Across the world, the Obama-Clinton foreign policy lies in tatters," Priebus said in attacking the speech. "From the failed reset with Russia, to the weak nuclear deal with Iran, to her State Department’s refusal to add Boko Haram to its list of terror organizations, Hillary Clinton has demonstrated she is the wrong person to take on and defeat the growing threats facing the United States."
