Kaine: Dems Need to 'Be at the Table' for Recounts

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., who served as Hillary Clinton's running mate during the presidential campaign, said Democrats need to be present during any recounts that take place.

Kaine appeared Monday on Fox 5-TV in D.C. and discussed the outcome of the election in a wide-ranging interview.

"The Clinton team looked at the votes, and looked at the recount, and we're not going to pursue it," Kaine said. "But when Jill Stein, one of the third party candidates, decided to do it — if there's going to be a recount, we have to be at the table to make sure it's done right, that it's done fairly.

"I do think people are entitled to know that the results are results that they can trust, and that they can count on. So, if there's a recount, we have to be at the table, and we are. I think people are entitled to know that the results are fair."

At Stein's request, Wisconsin was slated to begin recounting its election ballots Thursday. She has also pursued recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan. Reform party candidate Rocky De La Fuente asked Nevada to perform a recount as well, per ABC's Kolo 8-TV in Reno, Nev. Of those four states, Clinton's only victory came in Nevada.
