Most New Yorkers do not want Hillary Clinton to run for mayor, a recent poll conducted by Rasmussen Reports finds.

Just 23 percent of likely voters think Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president in 2016, should seek the mayoralty, while 58 percent do not want to see her run. "Hillary for Mayor" fliers have appeared in the city and Clinton has not publicly squashed rumors she is considering an attempt at seeking the mayoral bid. Major Democratic donors and leaders have urged her to challenge Bill de Blasio for the seat.

But some of her aides have shot down the reports, saying Clinton is instead focusing on aiding children and families. Neera Tanden, a Clinton confidante who advised her during her 2008 presidential primary bid, told CNN in January she does not expect Clinton "to ever run for any elected office again. I think she's going to figure out ways to help kids and families.

"That's been what she's been focused on her whole life, and a lot of issues that are affecting them, over the next couple of years."

Rasmussen surveyed 1,000 likely voters from March 2 through March 5.
