Sen. Rand Paul, who is expected to announce
his bid for the GOP presidential nomination on April 7, made an appeal on Twitter Sunday to gain more donations.
The six-part tweet was sent out beginning at 7 p.m. EDT, saying that his deadline to reach the Kentuckian's donation goal is Tuesday – one week before his announcement.
The tweets did not specify a dollar goal, but did seek 25 donations via Twitter by midnight.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was first officially in the game, announcing his candidacy last Monday. Other candidates say they will announce anywhere from April to mid-summer.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush reportedly is lining up major donors to run more toward the center. Candidates such as Paul and Cruz, who are in the tea party wing of the GOP, are starting early in an effort to pull in smaller donations from the base.
