Sen. Rand Paul, one of the American Health Care Act's biggest opponents, said Friday's decision to scrap the vote on it was the right one.
"I applaud House conservatives for keeping their word to the American people and standing up against Obamacare Lite," Paul said in a press release. "I look forward to passing full repeal of Obamacare in the very near future."
Paul, a physician in ophthalmology, has been outspoken for several weeks about his opinion that the AHCA, which had been House Republicans' Obamacare replacement bill, is not good enough. He even wrote his own healthcare legislation, one bill that would repeal Obamacare and one that would replace it.
House Speaker Paul Ryan, who publicly introduced the AHCA on March 6, sang a different tune after he canceled Friday's vote.
"I will not sugar coat this: This is a disappointing day for us," Ryan said.
