Members of the Republican party are growing more and more frustrated with a group of its own whose opposition to the House GOP's healthcare bill caused it to fail last week.
Republican Rep. Ralph Abraham of Louisiana supported the American Health Care Act, which was designed to replace the current Obamacare law. He vented about the House Freedom Caucus, a group of Republican congressmen who did not support the measure, on Twitter Monday:
Abraham was responding to President Donald Trump, who posted his own frustrations with the group over the weekend. Abraham, who began serving in the House in 2015, said in a statement after last Friday's decision by House Speaker Paul Ryan and Trump to call off the healthcare vote that the Freedom Caucus essentially joined up with Democrats on the issue.
According to The Hill, Freedom Caucus spokesperson Alyssa Farah said the group wants Trump to succeed as president.
"The HFC roots for Trump's success. The group could not in good conscience send him into '20 reelection w/back-to-back yrs of higher premiums," Farah wrote in a statement.
"Politically, the GOP should thank the cons & mods who helped stop this bill 4 not sending them in midterms w/ higher premiums under AHCA."
