In the wake of Donald Trump's controversial comments regarding abortion, his campaign manager's legal trouble surrounding an incident with a reporter, and more, some are wondering if his presidential campaign is falling off the rails.

The real estate mogul has a net worth of $4.5 billion, according to Forbes, and he has self-funded his campaign up to this point — a campaign that has him leading the Republican race for the presidential nomination. But are the wheels starting to come off?

A National Review piece, for example, asks whether Trump's recent blunders will hurt his chances and alienate voters in the remaining primaries and caucuses.

This week, Trump said if abortion were to be made illegal in the United States, women who undergo the procedure should be punished. He later backtracked and said the doctors should be punished, not the women. He also said he wouldn't "take my cards off the table" regarding the use of nuclear weapons in Europe, and in early March he talked about bringing back harsh interrogation techniques on terror suspects — including waterboarding.

Citing these examples, a New Yorker story concludes Trump has self-destructed.

Regarding Trump's seemingly not knowing what the nuclear triad was when he was asked about it during a debate last year, one of his former advisors told Politico this week the candidate is not studying up.

"I was concerned but I figured that he would bulk up on policy," said Sam Nunberg, who is supporting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the race. "He has not. I do not see a candidate who takes these issues seriously."

Trump has a strong lead in the polls and in delegate votes, but if he's unable to secure 1,237 votes before this summer's convention he could lose the nomination to Cruz or someone else.
